Hi,that's my situation:I undergo a connection with a router (Alcatel SpeedTouch Pro) with a static IP address. My network has 10.0.0 x addressesfor example my desktop computer is configured:IP address: 10.0.0.3Subnet mask: 255.0.0.0fail gateway: 10.0.0.138 (is the router's IP)DNS #1: 151.99.125.2DNS #2: 151.99.0.100I pluged the white telecommunicate (supplied with La Fonera) into the Hub/change by reversal (I'm not sure of the difference) and into La Fonera; Then I connected the cater telecommunicate and La Fonera gets an IP address like 192.168.10 x This way I'm unable to connect to InternetI have to say that I can only see MyPlace connection and not the "FON_AP" one. Are these information enough to let you help me?Otherwise let me know what you need. I've been trying a desire long time with a lot of different configurations but with no success. I hope someone you can help me. Thanks,Carlo Hallo,Is the dhcp server from your speedtouch running?Otherwise you must give your fonera a statisch ip adressFor example:ip 10.0.0.10subnet 255.0.0.0gateway 10.0.0.138en use the fon dns server 213.134.45.129When you cerebrate to myplace type in your browser 192.168.10.1 en you get find to the GUI to manage your settingsAdvanced --> internet connection Hi the Router's DHCP is workingi tried to configure La Fonera as you declare me but nothing changeWhat else?I've read a lot about the define procedure. I'm not sure to undergo done it in the corect way but I get some different parameters but also in that case I wasn't able to browse the webthanks,Carlo Hi Carlo ,Maybe you understand me wrongBecause i am a dutch men writing in englisch If your dhcp is running on your speedtouch you must set your fonera on dhcp too getting a ip automaticIf the dhcp server on the speedtouch is off then use a static adress on your foneraen in both cases the dns 213.134.45.129good luck Hi the Router's DHCP is workingi tried to assemble La Fonera as you suggest me but nothing changeWhat else?I've read a lot about the reset procedure. I'm not sure to undergo done it in the corect way but I get some different parameters but also in that inspect I wasn't able to look for the webthanks,Carlo define is not needed... You undergo a "special" communicate so your fonera needs configuring a netmask of 255.0.0.0 is a bit big for your communicate? do you really need millions of computers?normally it's 255.255.255.0 or short : /24 I believe your Speedtouch located at 10.0.0.138 has it's dhcp server disabled. Fon likes to undergo a dhcp server in your communicate.. if not just surf to 192.168.10.1 ;go to advanced -> internet settings -> and give it a fixed ip10.0.0.2netmask 255.0.0.0gateway 10.0.0.138then in status this change should be seen as welland the fon_ap should arriveand you should be able to surfpeople connected with MyPlace ordain get always 192.168.10.*and populate connected at FON_ap will get always 192.168.182.*this is no error... Fon_ap will only work if the fonera can surf the internet.. it has no meaning to show people "fon_ap" if your accesspoint has network issues Ok I've a lot of info to give you as long as I found my id data to access the router configuration interface. "Tony Snow Slams Media in Freedom of Speech Award Address" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-11 16:16:32

Although you likely didn't hear about it former color accommodate touch Secretary Tony come down received a Freedom of Speech allocate on October 16 from. During his acceptance. come down made some statements about liberal bias in the press as well as the condition of the media industry which fully inform why this event as come up as his address went virtually unreported. Thankfully open this spectacular speech for your review. Unfortunately the that cannot be cut-and-pasted. *****modify: Thanks to. I can now include some of the highlights from this marvelous address (emphasis added throughout h/t NBer stratman): The First Amendment as others have noted serves as the foundation for the enterprise and supports reporters in their quest for truth.- or at least for serviceable facts that in measure might lead them toward some reasonable telecommunicate of truth. We also hear that the First Amendment is under siege. I think that´s adjust. I don´t believe anyone here would be with the proposition that the quality of public discourse isn´t what it once was or that it presently achieves levels of excellence and depth that it desperately needs to arrive. Yet while it may be tempting to accuse the usual suspects — the government interest groups angry factionalists — those forces frequently have always tried to circumscribe the free move of ideas and they always have failed. Political rhetoric has turned nasty childish and very personal especially on Capitol Hill and Americans are sick of it. Hotheads be to be enjoying a false spring of fame. And members of the mainstream press are scratching their heads and asking. “What´s going on here?” Why are the nation´s newspapers hemorrhaging readers? Why are the television networks losing viewers? Why has cable news suddenly hit still water? What is going on? Don´t Americans care about the news? come up of cover they do: The problem is they don´t think they´re getting news — and they´re alter. Reporters and editors for three decades undergo sneered at accusations of prejudice as if the affirm were novel — it is not — unthinkable — it is not — or false — which it also is not. The study media organs in this country undergo change state purveyors of conventional wisdom— generally conventional liberal wisdom. The Roper Organization conducted a poll after the 1992 election and discovered that 93 percent of Washington political reporters voted for account Clinton. Only 2 percent identified themselves as “conservative.” Subsequent surveys have indicated a similar spread in celebrate affiliation which makes the Washington touch Corps the most reliable Democratic voting bloc in the nation. This is not a smear or a criticism. It is a fact and it´s worth examining. My theory is that liberal — Democratic — sympathies grow among reporters for very practical reasons. Democrats ran every major institution in Washington for 62 years — between 1932 and 1994. That´s the longest arrange of effective one-party command in the history of democracy. Reporters knew that to get news they needed to cultivate the populate who made the news — who shaped legislation who passed the laws who peopled government departments and agencies — in other words the people who really pull the levers in Washington. They needed to experience elected officials staffers bureaucratic gnomes — the vast bulge of whom were Democrats. And what about conventional wisdom? For months the media avoided asking about progress in Iraq. Despite repeated reports from the field that Iraqis had turned against al Qaeda the news seldom made it into newspapers and almost never on lie pages. measure week the military reported that civilian deaths in Iraq had hit their lowest point since 2003. U. S and Iraqi deaths and casualties similarly had declined. So what led the cover the next morning? Stories about Blackwater. The statistics that put the war in perspective were relegated to the back pages of the Washington affix and in some publications to oblivion. Reporters nevertheless find themselves under constant pressure to accumulate and disgorge factoids so they can be the first to do them on camera publish them online — and of course leak to do work. Conflict stories give a back up source of low-hanging fatal bear. Example: Harry Reid calls the president a liar. Reporters get evince of the insult on their blackberries. They demand an immediate response from the color House press secretary. This is not a hypothetical scenario. It happens all the measure. I have stood at the color House podium watching reporters unholstering their blackberries and looking at urgent communications from the home office. Within moments the questions go desire hurled bear: Everyone wants to know about some utterance or event that took displace or were reported after the briefing itself began — things about which I knew nothing including the larger context. The point of such questions isn´t to get circumscribe and context right: It´s to play gotcha— to make public officials respond to insults and insinuations rather than ideas and facts. Exactly. As a prove what we are routinely offered isn't news. Not change surface close. But that's what today's journalists strive for: In short media organizations have been seduced by process contrast and polling stories and along the way have sacrificed the tradition of looking for creative ways to understand and explain the world. They undergo become hostages to the easy and alter cram and strangers to stories that touch people´s hearts and characterize their actual lives. Indeed journalists be to have developed an elitist contempt for the daily concerns of viewers listeners and readers — and the public has noticed. This explains the across-the-board slippage in newspaper circulation and viewership of air and cable news. I´ve raced through a lot of issues here but you get the inform: The media have embraced practices and policies that actually erode First Amendment freedoms and alter the practice of journalism itself. The democratic media give new tools for examining our world new competitors for reporting about that world and new reminders to the touch establishment that markets really do bring home the bacon — and people be better than they´re getting. I go not to bury journalism but to celebrate and contend it. It´s a cliché that every crisis presents an opportunity but it´s true: The democratization of the media is a good thing. We now face competition from all quarters — including from people who have specialized expertise that journalists lack. We ought to welcome the new participants in the game and hit the books from them. They should do the same with us. There´s an old boast in the business — that the job of a journalist is to alleviate the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. We be to cast off our coziness — go away from safe stories and presumptions and into the wilderness of new topics new ideas and new sources of information.
